Welcome to my RAF Lakenheath Webpage (Unofficial). Hi, its Mike Shanley (T-Rex) here. I was a Fire Protection Specialist with the 48the CES. I had the fortunate experience of being stationed at the "Heath" from 1972 to 1974. I have many great memories from those years. The Base Cafeteria, Bowling Alley, NCO Club (the Stateside Shows), concerts at the Corn Exchange, racing in Newmarket, concerts at Rainbow Theater in London, Top of the Pops, Old Grey Whistle Test, & Wimpy Hamburgers. And of course all of the great people that I got to know in OMS, FMS, MMS, AMS, SPS, Transit Alert, Supply, CES (Fire Protection & Barrier Maint.), and Chow Hall Folks. Looking for John Rohrer (Washington), John Marks, Carl Murphy, David James, Robin Kopecky (New Jersey), Bill Meismer (Ohio), Sylvester (Sly) Smith, Morris Smith, Bowman, David Shaw (Found), Steve Durupt (Washington), Bill Shoop (sp), Deacon Prince (Passed Away), Wayne Hunt (Found), Mike McClure, Big Stretch (Barrier Maint.), Charlie Mathews, Jack Huff, Dave Knickerbocher (Passed Away), Dave Wireback (Found), JoBob Vaughn (Found), Rex Derin (Found) and so many others.
A few of those friendships I have been able to re-establish (thanks to the Internet), but unfortunately I have lost touch with many of those good friends (and forgotten many names). I hope with this website that I may find some of those friends as well as help others find their long lost friends. I hope that this page will bring back some of those great memories. I would like to ask those of you who visit this page, to email me with your stories from Lakenheath or any other of the bases in England. Please scan and send any pictures & memorabilia that you may have of Lakenheath from the past and present that you would like to post.
August 11, 2011 - Well well well, what a long strange trip its been. I mentioned in this section some time ago that I was going to do some work and updates to the site. But unfortunately I lost, misplaced or should I say FORGOT all my log in information to get on the site. I sat down and racked my brain to try and figure out what the hell it was. So I reached back in the cobwebs and stumbled across the information. So here we are again. It is my hope and desire to get back to doing some serious updating to the site.
